Demand, real and remembered
A reservation is a promise to consume, and promises outlive the orders that made them. After the sweep, May closes with 86 honest lines claiming 940 units, and a true shortage of 74 the open order book already covers.
◆ Open demand, 31 Mayswept, then trusted.

| M-8807, maintenance window | 19 | 210 |
| Open reservations | 86 | 940 |
| Short against stock and orders | Units |

| M-1120 | 22 |

| True shortage, covered by open orders | 74 |
Shortage means demand beyond the on-hand and the open book together, computed from swept reservations only. The sweep is the whole trick; the arithmetic after it is ordinary. Sample values are illustrative, never client data.
◆ Demand nobody remembers creatingthe orphan reservations.
Reservations belong to orders, and closing an order does not always close its reservations. The leftovers keep claiming stock, planning keeps believing them, and practitioners report warehouses buying for orders finished last quarter. The nightly sweep closes what its order already closed.
◆ The list that keeps no diarywhy you cannot prove the why.
The delivered stock-requirements view shows the live situation and keeps no history, so nobody can later prove which demand drove an order. Landed nightly, the demand picture gets a date, and every purchase can point at the shortage that justified it.
