The new door out, not open yet

Workday announced a real exit for your data: a lake, zero-copy shares into the big warehouses, and live queries. It is the door this catalog has argued for. As of August 2026 it is early adopter, unpriced, and not yet general.

RuleDate-stamp every claim about this platform. Its status changes quarterly, and pages that do not carry a date rot into misinformation.
Neverwait for the new door to start owning your data. The trending window keeps purging while you wait.
What was announcedthree pieces, one direction: your data, outside the walls.

At its September 2025 conference, Workday introduced Data Cloud: a managed lake holding tenant data, a sharing layer called Data Connect, and a query service called Live Data Query. The sharing layer is the interesting part. It exposes tenant data as zero-copy tables in Snowflake, Databricks, and other platforms, in the open Iceberg table format, without an extract pipeline in between.

Read that against this catalog's extraction pattern and the significance is plain. Today, getting Workday data into a warehouse means report calls with practitioner-observed caps, query paging, and rebuilt logic. A zero-copy share replaces the whole first mile. It is the vendor conceding that your data belongs in your warehouse.

The honest summary: real, promising, and pre-general. Early adopter means invitation, migration risk, and terms that can shift before general release. This page states only what Workday has said publicly, dates every claim, and is refreshed quarterly because the ground moves.

What to build while the door opensthe models, because the pipe is the replaceable part.

The tempting mistake is waiting. But the pipe was never the valuable part of an owned warehouse; the models are. A payroll fact that ties to the ledger, a worker snapshot that keeps every date, a turnover calculation that survives scrutiny: none of that arrives with a share. It is built, and it works identically whether rows arrive by report extraction today or zero-copy share next year.

Meanwhile the delivered history keeps its habits. The trending store purges past its window each month you wait, and purged months do not return through any future door. Build the owned snapshot now on today's extraction; swap the first mile when the share is general. The models will not notice the plumbing changed.

Use case
Problem
The new data platform promises a real exit for your data, but it is early adopter, unpriced, and shifting, and waiting for it costs history every month.
What we build
Owned models on today's extraction paths, designed so the zero-copy share replaces the first mile without touching the models.
What you get
Progress now and readiness later: history accumulating today, and a pipeline swap instead of a rebuild when the door opens.
Want models that are ready before the door opens?
We build them on today’s extraction, and they slot onto the share the day it goes general.
