Six codes tell the whole story
Every material movement carries a three-digit code. May at plant 2100 used six of them across 381 documents: receipts in, reversals and returns back out, issues to production, transfers between locations, and deliveries to customers.
◆ May, by movement typesix codes, one partition.
| Code and meaning | Documents | Units |
|---|---|---|
| 101, goods receipt against order | 142 | 2,240 |
| 102, receipt reversal | 3 | 18 |
| 122, return to vendor | 5 | 42 |
| 261, issue to production order | 118 | 1,180 |
| 311, transfer between locations | 29 | 460 |
| 601, goods issue for delivery | 84 | 240 |
| Movement documents, May | 381 |
Receipts net of reversals and returns put 2,180 units on hand; issues to production and deliveries took 1,420 out; transfers moved 460 between locations and changed nothing at plant level. The roll-forward is these six rows, folded. Sample values are illustrative, never client data.
◆ The decode disciplineplain words, owned once.
SAP ships hundreds of movement types and most plants live on a dozen. The owned dimension carries code, direction, and a plain sentence per type, so a controller reads returns to vendor, not 122. New codes appearing in MATDOC and missing from the dimension fail the nightly check.
