Counted, booked, and the gap

A count is the only time the book meets the shelf. May counted the quality and returns locations: 1,200 units on the book, 1,172 on the shelf, 14 found, 42 missing, and the write-down posted into June with the period stated.

RuleCount against a frozen book, post differences the same day, and trend the difference rate by location and counter, because the rate is the control.
Neverchase the absolute difference. A small net hides large gross errors cancelling; the gain and the loss are separate findings with separate causes.

A count is the only time the book meets the shelf. Everything about how you run it decides what the gap means.

The 1,200 book units are the overview’s quality and returns locations, counted whole. Differences posted 1 June so May’s six-code partition stays clean; the posting date question is half of this page’s point. Sample values are illustrative, never client data.

◆ The freeze nobody runsthe gap inside the gap.

The posting block exists so the book holds still during the count, and operations almost never allow it, so receipts and issues keep landing while counters walk. Part of every difference is then timing, not shrinkage. The honest report states the freeze window, or its absence, next to the number.

◆ The rate is the controland thresholds get gamed.

Trend gross difference rate by location, counter, and material group; a rising rate is the finding even when nets stay small. And watch splitting: differences filed just under the approval threshold, repeatedly, are practitioner-reported in every large plant. The landed history makes the pattern a query.

Use case
Problem
Counts post late into the wrong period, nets hide offsetting errors, approval thresholds shape what gets written up, and nobody trends the rate.
What we build
Count results landed against frozen book values: gains and losses separate, rates trended by location and counter, threshold patterns visible.
What you get
A count program that finds causes: timing noise separated from shrinkage, counters and locations compared honestly, and the splitting game exposed.
What is your gross difference rate, trended?
We build the count history that answers it by location.
