Sent back, and the money after
Only half of a return has a transaction. The 122 moves the stock back; nothing forces the money back. May sent 42 units home across five documents, and the 6,420.00 of expected credits is a list someone owns until it clears.
◆ May returns, by reasonthe 122 row, opened.
| Reason | Documents | Units | Credit expected |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quality rejection | 3 | 30 | 4,420.00 |
| Wrong item delivered | 2 | 12 | 2,000.00 |
| Returns to vendor, May | 5 | 42 | 6,420.00 |
Documents and units are the movement partition’s 122 row. The credit column is the page’s point: stock accounting is done at posting, cash recovery is not, and the clearing account will quietly absorb whatever nobody chases. Sample values are illustrative, never client data.
◆ The credit that never comes backthe leak with no owner.
Practitioners report vendor credits arriving weeks late, short, or never, because no delivered process pairs the credit memo to the return that earned it. A standing list of returns with credits open, aged like receivables, turns recovery into a routine instead of a favor.
◆ The owned answerreturns as a small ledger.
Each return lands with reason, value, and expected credit; incoming credit memos match against the list and the remainder ages visibly. Reason trends feed the vendor scores, and quality’s rejects stop being free for the vendors causing them.
